It makes me sad and mad to see so many wonderful creative hubs of Vancouver disappearing in the consumptive demand for condominium-able property.
The Waldorf is such a cool place. I wish developers could build around it. What will happen when this place is torn down and replaced with a bunch of boxy concrete residences with mountain-crane views? Where will the inhabitants go to laugh, meet others, and complain about property prices, condotamination, and Vancouver in general? I guess there will be other boxes, electronic and otherwise, but none so charming as this comedian-filled anthropomorphic Tiki bar.
I painted it at twilight, with warm inner lights. Adios, Waldorf.
