Want something specific? I’m commissionable! That’s the good news. The bad news is there’s a really long wait, especially for large paintings.

Here are my policies:

1. I will generally say yes to most commissions but when is up to me.
2. I don’t take deposits or down payments because sometimes things take a while.

Got a deadline? Ask. Sometimes the timing works and I’ll be looking to paint something exactly like what you want as a break from whatever else I’m working on. At the very least, I’ll give you an answer right away. For those who want something I’ve already done but has been sold, please see my Print and Reproduction Policy page.

Pace:

I do about 2 to 3 paintings a month but my small studio means that I only do one large (over 3′ wide or tall) at a time. I have a To Do Queue that I try to keep up to date so you can see what I’m working on.

By the way, my business is just me. I don’t have assistants or colleagues to pick up the slack when life is unpredictable and, as you may have noticed, the 2020s have been *really* unpredictable.

Subjects:

Everyone has a place or a view that means something to them. I can take that place or view and memorialize it in a happy, bright Saturday morning cartoon style. I love a challenge, especially painting something different or personal or unusual.

How it works:

Give me an idea of the subject and describe a size. If you know where you will potentially hang the painting then my only recommendation on size is to leave a “halo” of space where the painting will go.

I work from several photos as well as my own imagination or experience of a scene. I don’t want the perfect photographic composition right off the bat. In fact, it seems to work better if you can give me several photos that you’ve taken yourself. If you’re familiar with my paintings, you’ll see that I don’t follow perspective or spatial laws. I crowd as much as is logically and aesthetically possible in, because that’s what we see on a really good day, no? Everything!

Well, almost. I won’t do a completely illogical view and panoramic aerial views don’t work well on small canvases.

Tell me why you love a scene – what stands out and why? What is your favorite time of day and season for that scene? I’ll describe the likely color palette from your answers and we’ll go from there.

I can send you progress shots so you can see how things are coming along or not – sometimes my process makes people nervous. Here is an example of how something goes from start to finish:

Done:

When I’m done, you’ll be the first person I offer it to. If you like it, great! If you don’t like it, no worries. Either way, I keep the copyright on the image, which means if I want to make a coffee mug or mousepad something with it down the line, I can, but you get the original painting if you want and any publicity that comes with it. At the end of the day, that’s the investment bit, anyway.

So if all the above sounds good, please contact me.
