Vancouver’s Commercial Drive is one of the more colorful areas in Vancouver. “The Drive,” as it is more commonly known, is Vancouver’s “old school” ethnic neighbourhood with loads of Mediterranean, Latin American, and eastern European stores lining the streets.

The theme of this painting is soccer because Commercial Drive is soccer central. The World Cup usually brings this place to a standstill because it is so full of cheering fans, so picture toilet paper rolls being thrown overhead, exuberance, fist-pumping cheers, and if you look closely you might see a series of hidden flags for Spain, Portugal, Italy, Argentina, Brasil, and France.

Hint: look at the newspaper boxes on the street and think of stripes on a flag.
