This is Westsyde in Kamloops, BC, where I grew up.
One of the best parts about growing up here was climbing the hills right in our backyards basically unsupervised. Every kid I knew did that even though every hole in the ground was a potential rattlesnake nest and bear scat was as plentiful as the sagebrush. One time I was pretty sure I heard a mountain lion roar though in retrospect it was probably a teenage boy. It’s pleasant to mythologize how the only fears we had then were around nature.“There’s a river somewhere that flows through the lives of everyone”
